In September of this year, members of the Environment team set up several duck nesting boxes on Mattagami Lake.
Built for a variety of species such as Wood Ducks, Mergansers and Goldeneyes, the boxes have a predator guard installed to protect eggs and ducklings.
It is expected that ducks will begin checking out the nesting boxes in late winter to early spring, and depending on the species, actual nesting will begin as early as March.
